Victoria Paterās interactive display Farbenspiel š Kaleidoscope of ColorsĀ was created for the Power Frauen: Women Who Dare to Dream exhibition in 2024.
You are invited to play in GuntaĀ Stƶlzl's world of color.
First, arrange the grid of blocks in the double-sided interactive display mounted in the gallery. Then āweave inā layers of semi-transparent patterns and watch your design transform in unexpected ways.Ā
The painted blocks that make up Farbenspiel were inspired by individual shapes and colors from some of the most influential Bauhaus weavings by the textile artist and Master Gunta Stƶlzl.
She was known to paint and plot out her tapestry plans in advance, but once on the loom the magic of improvisation naturally unfolded. This gallery piece includes patterned acrylic layers to mask and reveal shapes and colorways in delightfully unpredictable ways so you can experiment and play like Stƶlzl.

This curated show by the Dankhaus Cultural Center was designed to highlight historical women of German descent. Gunta Stƶzlz the artist, weaver, and trailblazer was an honor to research. Special thanks to the viral insta Women Designers You Should KnowĀ and their podcast šøĀ Episode 1Ā šøĀ for showcasing her revolutionary work.Ā This presentation by her youngest daughter was also a treat and contained more of the juicy personal nuggets I love. Colleen Wilson and Seth Morton helped me craft my story and double check my German translation wasn't embarassingly offensive. Craft night friends listened to all my wild ideas and reminded me of my desire to keep things interactive, always.Ā
