Artful Balance Sculpture Series

Victoria Pater crawled out of survival mode to play — the result is twenty vibrant, harmonious stacks depicting parenting in impossible times.

The sculptures that make up the Artful Balance series mark a new chapter for Artist/Mother, Victoria Pater. It’s a departure from too much time spent overthinking and perfecting everything in her personal and professional life. In this series, there was no A/B testing, or excessive prototyping. She did not survey the masses or send a presentation deck to leadership. She simply cut shapes out of scrap wood and sat on the floor of her studio to paint, stack, topple, and reconfigure colorful bits and organic blobs to her heart’s content.

Artful Balance was part of the group art show You are Invited that exhibited at Dankhaus Cultural Center in Chicago ✱ May 4–June 14, 2024.

    Stack, Topple, and Play

Gallery visitors of all ages were invited to play and create temporary compositions on the velcro-coated easels Victoria outfitted the space with. Buckets of brightly colored shapes, wood grain blobs, and brass wire were provided.
